Yves Punie is Acting Head of Unit at the EC Joint Research Centre (JRC) leading the Unit on Algorithmic Transparency, which also operates the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT). He has served as Deputy Head of Unit since the establishment of ECAT in January 2023, contributing scientific and technical expertise to the enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Prior to this, he led the JRC's work on Human Capital and Employment where he was instrumental in the development of several JRC competence frameworks and analytical tools, such as DigComp, LifeComp, GreenComp and SELFIE which have become reference instruments for education, training and lifelong learning policies across Europe and beyond. Before joining the JRC in 2001, he was interim Assistant Professor at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), where he obtained a Ph.D. in Social Sciences.
