His research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and philosophy, including ethics. One strand concerns AI-generated propaganda — he coined the term "slopaganda" — and what synthetic content at scale does to the information environments democratic deliberation depends on. Another examines how designed digital environments shape moral decision-making, from matching and recommendation on dating apps to choice architecture in videogames and the prospect of AI systems acting as moral advisors. This lets him move between the technical properties of algorithmic systems and the cognitive and normative questions their deployment raises: how manipulation actually works, what users can reasonably be expected to notice, and what meaningful transparency would demand.
