Dr. Femke Konings is a postdoctoral researcher (FWO) at the Media Psychology Lab at KU Leuven. Her research examines how adolescents and emerging adults engage with digital media, with a particular focus on social interactions, well-being, identity, and digital literacy. A central interest in her work is the interplay between users and digital environments: how platform features and social contexts shape users’ experiences, and how users’ digital competencies, in turn, influence the ways in which they navigate and respond to these environments. The Media Psychology Lab more broadly investigates the opportunities and risks of digital media use among young people, with a strong focus on digital well-being, media literacy, and vulnerable users. Current research within the lab also examines adolescents’ interactions with generative AI and social chatbots, including their implications for emotional and social well-being.
